Those passionate about the environment and continuously searching for opportunities to get involved can spend the day at Conservation in the City on Saturday, June 10, at Kathryn Albertson Park, 1001 Americana Blvd., Boise.
The family-friendly event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and highlights Boise programs and community partners that are doing exceptional work in the world of conservation, sustainability and environmental education.
Organizations such as the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center, Boise Community Forestry, Boise Urban Garden School, Idaho Botanical Garden, Golden Eagle Audubon Society, CWI Biology and others will be on site to chat with attendees about their work and provide information on what they can do to help the cause.
The Golden Eagle Audubon Society will also be conducting abbreviated birding tours throughout the day
Free to attend. For more information, go to parks.cityofboise.org.
Events like these are difficult to coordinate without the help of volunteers. So if you’d like to get right on lending that helping hand, volunteers are needed to set things up in the morning, work information booths during the event, and assist in taking things down and cleaning up the park once everything wraps up.
If interested, contact Jerry Pugh, community programs coordinator, at 608-7617 or jpugh@cityofboise.org.
Cars, bikes and airbrush artists roll in for “Rides That Rock”
Whether you have a killer hog you’d like to show off or you just enjoy drooling over other peoples’ projects, the “Rides That Rock” Hot Rods and Harleys Showdown is where it’s at Saturday, June 10.
The rock ‘n roll-themed hot rod/bike show is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at High Desert Harley Davidson, 2310 E. Cinema Drive, Meridian, and is open to all levels of restoration — even rides in progress.
The family-friendly event has tunes, food and a raffle for a 55 Chevy pedal car and a Boise State University rocking chair. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20, and you do not need to be present to win.
Several Idaho airbrush and pinstripe artists will sell garage art signs, license plates, etc., that they will personalize on request. Or bring your own items, such as a helmet, to have personalized. Fees depend on complexity of the design. The artists will also customize bikes and hot rods that register for the show.
There will be 33 award categories — all custom handmade awards. For example, four special customized electric guitars will be presented during the show. And one of those guitars, customized by a local artist, is signed by Ted Nugent (hell yeah, The Nuge) and will be handed over to the owner of the Best Hand Built Traditional Hot Rod.
Spectators pay nothing. But to register your ride, it’s $5 plus a donation for St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital like Hot Wheels, stuffed animals, coloring books, small dolls, etc.
