Update: Brandon Hixon will make his initial court appearance 3 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Ada County Courthouse.
A former Caldwell lawmaker was arrested Saturday night and charged with misdemeanor DUI and resisting or obstructing arrest, according to Ada County Jail records.
Republican Brandon Hixon, 36, stepped down from the Idaho House in October amid an investigation into sexual abuse, which is now being handled by the state Attorney General’s Office.
Hixon was arrested shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday by Meridian Police Department. By late Sunday morning, he had bonded out of Ada County Jail according to the facility’s website. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Dec. 11.
According to MPD’s arrest log, Hixon was arrested near South Linder Road and westbound Interstate 84.
A Meridian Police Department release said a witness told police Hixon was swerving across the road and “almost drove off the roadway,” according to Idaho Reports. The release also said Hixon initially refused to stop when police attempted to pull him over and, once stopped, refused to exit his vehicle.
When Hixon was taken into custody, Idaho Reports said, his blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit.
The Statesman has reached out to Meridian police for comment.
